The 2012/2013 NCRA/ANREC Community Radio Award Winners!

Congratulations to those honoured for their work as well as everyone who submitted nominations!

For 20 years the NCRA Community Radio Awards have served as a place for the sector to recognize our work — from what we put on air, to how we contribute to our communities.

As we mentioned at the awards, we received more than 100 submissions this year which were then evaluated by our panel of eight judges. A HUGE thanks and respect goes to all eight of our judges, all of whom have experience with c/c radio. They were: Didier Bikorimana, Dave Brown, Stephanie Kale, Sharmeen Khan, Heather Kitching, Patrick Nagle, Valentina Naranjo, and John Harris Stevenson.

We had entries from new and longstanding members, campus and community stations, internet and FM, rural and urban. The Awards go some way toward recognizing the diversity of our sector.

The actual Awards ceremony was magical, with the winners who were present in the room making moving speeches, cracking jokes (or both), and with everyone in the room acting as a choir of kazoos. Gunargie O'Sullivan in particular gave a very moving speech about her history with Neskie Manuel and relating why the Award was named after him.

Thanks again to all those who applied. And thanks to everyone at all our stations for producing dynamic and important programming that serves our communities.
