Advocacy

The NCRA advocates for our members and the campus and community radio sector as a whole with the federal government, their departments and agencies, industry groups, and other stakeholders to work for fairer regulation, financing, and awareness of the sector's needs. Our efforts have been focused largely on letters and meetings with the CRTC, the Copyright Board of Canada, and the federal government.

KEY PROCEEDINGS AND SUBMISSIONS


CRTC 2010 Campus and Community Radio Policy:
In 2010, the CRTC published a new combined Campus and Community Radio Policy (Broadcasting Regulatory Policy CRTC 2010-499). The NCRA was actively involved throughout this process and worked collaboratively with the Alliance des radios communautaires du Canada (ARC du Canada) and the Association des radiodiffuseurs communautaires du Québec (ARCQ). What resulted was a more relevant policy for the sector and a new funding mechanism for all stations. 

 

Licence Revocation for CKLN-FM in Toronto, ON: 

In Broadcasting Notice of Consultation CRTC 2010-146, the CRTC noted that it had received complaints concerning the station's governance and operations. What followed was a year-long proceeding that ended with the revocation of that station's licence (Broadcasting Decision CRTC 2011-56).
