The Ontario Independent Music Archive (OIMA) is a website where musicians can post and share new work while also acting as an archive for older music originally produced in small batches on vinyl, cassette and CD.

The project was initiated by the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) and the Music Association of Canada and is funded by a grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

The World Music Archive Coordinator will be responsible for outreach to independent world music artists across Ontario; researching older independent world music of all genres from Ontario’s past, particularly on analog formats; contacting rights holders to digitize and share this older music; working with campus and community radio stations across the province; and helping promote the archive.

The ideal candidate is familiar with, and passionate about independent music from Ontario, particularly music by world music artists; has strong communication and research skills; knows how to write for the web and has a daily working proficiency with the internet. It is also an asset if applicants have experience with the music industry, campus and community radio and are bilingual.

Responsibilities include:

• Reaching out to independent World Music artists and other members of the music industry, c/c radio stations, and the general public

• Researching, securing rights to and digitizing independent world music in all genres

• Writing monthly reports on your progress to the OIMA Coordinating Committee

This position was funded by Service Canada's Canada Summer Jobs program. To be eligible for this position, applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada, full-time students during the 2012-13 academic year who are returning to school in the fall, and between the ages of 15 and 30. 

 

Qualifications: 

 

Qualifications include:

• Knowledge of diverse genres of independent music, particularly by Aboriginal artists

• Experience in community outreach, research, and communications

• Solid written and oral communication skills

• Demonstrated ability and experience in working independently and with a small team

• Work or volunteer experience at one or more campus or community radio station in Canada is an asset

• Experience with content development and uploading is an asset

 

Salary: 

This position pays $10.25/hour for 30 hours a week from Monday July 15, 2013 - Friday, August 30, 2013.
