Job Description
Volunteer Coordinator
General Description:
Reporting to the General Manager (GM), this half-time position is responsible for the recruitment, training, support and coordination of volunteers, and development of effective volunteer strategies, as well as organizing administrative systems and executing administrative functions associated with the operations of Radius Communications Inc.
Volunteer coordination duties will include:
• Assist in the organization of special events such as fundraising events, including the recruitment and scheduling of volunteers for various duties at events.
• Assist the GM in researching and organizing new opportunities for on-air programming volunteers, and other volunteer opportunities for non-programmers.
• Coordinate volunteers to help with the operation of the station, helping out with special projects and day-to-day tasks.
• Work with the GM to develop a strategy and system to engage volunteers in non-programming commitments, and measure volunteer commitment to responsibilities.
• Maintain a database of volunteer information, e.g progress, achievements.
Additional administrative duties will include:
• Organize and maintain records and database of Radius voting members, and produce and mail renewal notices, membership cards, fundraising letters, etc.
• Organize and maintain records of participation in the Community Supporters Program, correspond with new participants and organize the annual sticker mailing.
• Organize incoming and outgoing correspondence.
• Provide telephone and office reception services.
• Maintain the general file system.
• Compile and maintain Public Service Announcements.
• Perform such other duties as required from time to time.
Required education and experience:
• High school diploma supplemented by considerable administrative experience, previous volunteer coordination duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired qualifications, skills and abilities:
• Experience with office computer technologies including word processing, spreadsheet and database programs (Microsoft Office).
• Ability to use communication technology such as web browsers, email, etc.
• Ability to develop and accurately maintain sound administrative and records systems.
• Knowledge of community radio’s purpose and role in the community, and a passion for promoting and improving CJTR’s radio service.
• Effective communicator, both verbal and written, and able to manage complex relationships with staff, volunteers, board members and other stakeholders.
• Ability to produce high-quality work, at times under pressure of deadlines.
• Ability to present the station in a positive and professional manner.
• Experience working with volunteers, and an understanding of volunteer issues. Solid knowledge and commitment to the principles of volunteerism.
Terms of employment:
20 hours per week. Hours of work are Monday to Friday, 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm with additional hours on weekdays and weekends occasionally. This is an hourly position with starting salary from $10 to $13 per hour, depending on experience.
