CFRC 101.9fm is the oldest campus-based broadcaster in Canada and one of the longest-running radio stations in the world. Based at Queen's University in Kingston since 1922, CFRC broadcasts a wide variety of spoken word and music programming that offers an alternative to the mainstream. CFRC broadcasts twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week with a team of three managers, one permanent and one part-time staff, and more than 150 student and community volunteers.
Tasks and Responsibilities
-Work with the Music Programming Manager to maintain a 24‐hour, quality programming schedule in accordance with CRTC regulations for community‐based campus stations
-Ensure the fair and equitable recruitment of new volunteers with other CFRC staff
-Coordinate training for volunteers in broadcast techniques, CFRC policy, and CRTC regulations
-Supervise, support, coordinate, and provide feedback to spoken-word and sports programmers
-Learn about and adhere to CFRC, CRTC and SOCAN policies
-Supervise and discipline volunteers as needed while ensuring a positive working environment
-Continually identify new areas for greater diversity in spoken word content at CFRC
-Maintain effective and regular communication with CFRC volunteers, staff and the AMS
-Maintain, with the Music Programming Manager, a current and complete volunteer database and email listserve, plus up-to-date physical and digital versions of CFRC's broadcast schedule
-Coordinate commissioned projects from the University and other Kingston organizations
-Work with other staff to develop and follow a budget and strategic plan
-Work with other staff to prepare and present a Mid‐Year Review to the AMS Board
-Liase with Media Services Director and attend meetings of Media Services caucus
-Alternate attendance at CFRC Board of Directors meetings with other managers
-Work with other CFRC staff to ensure the effective functioning of the radio station
-Complete a transition process with the incoming manager that includes a transition manual
-Set and maintain consistent office hours throughout the year
Terms of Employment
-Upon being hired, all incoming full-time staff are required to fulfill a minimum of 20 hours of on-the-job transitioning in April 2010. Staff will receive some remuneration for this.
-30 hours/week from May 1 2010-April 30 2011; contract renewable for up to 3 years
-The salary is approximately $16,500
-If the applicant is a student applicant, must be enrolled in at least 2.0 Arts and Science or equivalent credits at the time of applying and for the duration of their term, and have paid the full slate of AMS mandatory fees
-This position is open to non-students
