HIRING: SPOKEN WORD
& SPECIAL PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR
Thanks to the support of the Community Radio Fund of Canada, CFRC is hiring a full-time Spoken Word and Special Programming Coordinator to recruit, train, mentor and inspire volunteers and student coordinators who will hone their skills in local news, arts, and cultural programming, including live remote broadcasts from campus and community events such as concerts, cabarets and open mics. This position runs from September 2, 2014 to April 24, 2015 with a time commitment of 30 hours per week for 34 weeks at $12/hour.
Responsibilities include:
-Recruiting, training, motivating and mentoring volunteers to enhance their skills in live remote broadcast production and spoken word programming content
-Supporting collectives of volunteers involved in the production of local arts programming, local news programming and local live remote broadcasts.
-Working with student collective coordinators to facilitate regularly scheduled meetings of these programming collectives and communication among different volunteers involved in the collectives and between volunteers and staff.
-Brainstorming with the collectives to expand and improve CFRC's news, arts and live programming -Monitoring email accounts and phone messages, acting on relevant press releases and tips by sharing them with appropriate volunteers and collectives
-Overseeing the production of weekly programming covering local news and arts and culture. -Working with other staff to coordinate technical and programming aspects of live broadcasts, news and arts coverage.
-Providing technical support for live coverage from at least 10 cultural/social/community events and at least 10 musical events/concerts
-Developing training tools and resources for live broadcast production and spoken word programming -Presenting six skill-building workshops related to spoken word programming production and live remote broadcasting.
-Liaising with the Groundwire national alternative radio news project and the Radia international radio art project to contribute segments and production
-Working with the collectives to promote CFRC's news, arts and live broadcast offerings through the station's website, blogs, social media and other means
-Completing a final report detailing experiences, successes and challenges of the role.
The ideal candidate for this position will have:
-Strong oral and written communication skills
-Excellent personal organization and time management skills
-Self-motivation and an ability to work as part of a team
-Experience with volunteer recruitment, coordination, training, and mentoring
-Familiarity with social media platforms such as Wordpress, Facebook, Twitter
-Experience with community radio programming and production
