CFRU 93.3 FM at the University of Guelph is hiring for the position of PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR (CFRU STAFF) – 17.5 Hours per week

CFRU 93.3FM is a volunteer driven student and community radio station, committed to broadcasting high quality, innovative and entertaining music and spoken word programming which serves as a distinct alternative to other available radio services.

Nature and Scope:

The Programming Coordinator is responsible for the overall quality and content of programming, identifying needs to ensure that CFRU programming meets station programming priorities and principles, as well as CRTC Policy including maintaining required hours of local programming. The Programming Coordinator is also responsible for giving adequate support to programmers to ensure that all content is fair, accurate, informative, and follows federal broadcast regulations and station policies and principles.

The Programming Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that a minimum of 25% of CFRU programming is spoken word programming and that policies regarding local origination of programming, local focus of programming, and nature of programming are clearly communicated and adhered to by all programmers.

Supervisory duties include recruiting and selecting volunteers for on air programming, training volunteers appropriately, general mentoring of volunteers and (with the aid of the Volunteer Coordinator), conducting progress reports for on-air programming volunteers, with the assistance of the Programming Committee.

Duties include:

· Provide opportunities for volunteers wherever possible (develop task lists)

· Provide training for volunteers in music and spokenword programming coordination and other activities

· Develop and maintain the broadcast schedule with input from board of directors, station manager, other staff and programming committee

· Ensure that all programming is in line with station principles and policies, and CRTC regulations and fulfills requirements for program content, presentation, traffic and continuity

· Coordination of on-air aspects of remote and special broadcasts/events

· Coordinate the Programming Committee and maintain committee minutes for permanent record. Provide minutes to the Station Manager

· Verification of program logs

· Set tone and direction for public affairs, news and sports programming

· Encourage, provide support and feedback to all on-air programmers

· Coordinate fill-ins for all on-air programming

· Circulate pertinent CRTC public notices and decisions

· License renewal application preparation assistance

· Recruiting and mentoring of volunteers to produce spoken word programming including scheduling and coordination of regular workshops in such areas as: interview techniques, scriptwriting, editing, etc

· Assist volunteers in production of spoken word programming which may include documentaries, interviews, talk excerpts, and recordings which come to CFRU from external sources

· Coordinate spoken word (Public Access News and Information Collective, PANIC) meetings, maintain minutes for permanent record. Provide minutes to the Station Manager

· Facilitate ongoing evaluation process of CFRU spoken word programming and ensure programmers get regular feedback.

· Supervise development and maintenance of an on-going spokenword archive by appropriately trained volunteers

· Supervision of on-air aspects of CFRU funding drives

· Collect and review operator's logs and traffic reports and report issues to Station Manager

· Participation at staff meetings

· Participation in the production and maintenance of appropriate training and policy manuals for CFRU

· Coordinate on-air fill-ins, and when volunteers are unable to fill-in, provide alternative programming with support of music coordinator.

· Provide training for incoming Programming Coordinator if possible

· Other duties as may be required during planned staff absences, provided they are consistent with the role of the programming coordinator

Salary: 

Wage is $16.82 per hour plus extended benefits. This is a CUPE 1281 Bargaining Unit position.

[A bargaining unit employee shall have the right to return to their position during their period of leave provided they give four (4) weeks’ notice]. [An employee shall be entitles, upon request, to an additional two (2) years unpaid parental leave.]
