
Student Media/University of Windsor – CJAM 99.1 FM – is hiring for the position of PROGRAM DIRECTOR. The salaried full time position is 35 hours per week.
CJAM is a nonprofit volunteer-driven campus-based community radio station. We provide music and information programming not offered by mainstream commercial media in the Windsor/Detroit area. We serve people and groups within the community who are under represented or maligned by mainstream media by allowing a forum to express their views.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Program Director is responsible for all aspects of CJAM programming. The Program Director will work together with CJAM staff/management to fulfill the station’s mandate and ensure CJAM continues to provide the community with high quality alternative programming.
Duties include:
· Keep the schedule full and evolving with spoken word and music programming in accordance with CJAM mandate
· Serve as a resource for CJAM volunteers regarding all matters relating to broadcasting and programming
· Work with the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure CJAM volunteers receive satisfactory training and skill development relating to broadcasting
· With the assistance of the Music Director, review and evaluate all programs at least once per year
· Host between 0.5 and 2 hours of programming per week
· Fill in as a DJ when needed
· Ensure that all programming content is of a high quality and in compliance with CRTC guidelines and CJAM mandate
· Exercise, enforce and develop CJAM policy
· Build partnerships with groups on campus and within the larger community to foster continuity, quality and relevance in programming.
· Assist in coordination/scheduling of Lancer sports broadcasting and other special events
· Production, rotation/traffic and broadcast and of paid commercial advertisements, public service announcements, station promos, music events/community/arts calendars, etc
· Production and review of daily traffic (commercial) logs-sheets.
· Coordinate/Schedule volunteer use of CJAM production studios
· Coordinate volunteer use of recording equipment
· Coordinate/Schedule on-air read materials
· Coordinate production/recording of community events/ arts/ stage diving live music calendars
· Program on-air read materials
· Regularly update CJAM’s website with programming news and schedule information
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and listening skills
· Demonstrated experience and knowledge relating to non-commercial radio
· Experience in journalism and new media
· Strong organizational and time management skills
· Conflict resolution and management skills
· Computer and basic radio/audio production skills
· Friendly and patient disposition
· Management or Volunteer coordination experience a plus
