
Working closely with the Music Department Coordinator, the Music Librarian and Music Volunteer Coordinator will work to promote local music and emerging artists both on-air and over the CKUT music blog, as well as assist with the development of CKUT’s digital music library. As well, the individual in this position will work in collaboration with the Music Department Coordinator to curate, promote and develop the music department’s flagship collective program, New Shit. The individual will also package and distribute New Shit as a podcast, which will ideally solidify a process that CKUT can use for all of its programs. The candidate will also provide support for two other in-house programs: The Montreal Sessions, which is a two hour weekly radio show that is programmed by a different local curator (such as musicians, artists, promoters, record labels, or festivals) and If You Got Ears, which follows the same monthly-curator structure, but is focused on more avant-garde and experimental aesthetics. Finally, the position involves developing a plan to improve the integration and training of new Music Department volunteers.
Tasks & Responsibilities
-Train and integrate new volunteers into the music department
-Promote local music and emerging Montreal artists
-Assist in the organization of music department fundraisers and Total Eclipse concert series
-Oversee the music department’s blog and improve online social media presence
-Assist with the operation and maintenance of CKUT’s digital and physical music libraries
-Assist the Music Coordinator in tracking new releases
-Assist with a myriad of departmental administrative tasks (eg. mail logging and distribution, music labeling, filing, emails and calls)
-Help coordinate music video shoots in collaboration with TVM (McGill television station)
-Cover duties of the Music Coordinator during absences and/or vacations.
-Work with new and experienced volunteers to program New Shit and develop a system to launch it as a podcast. Once this protocol is established, that system will be used to launch other CKUT programs as podcasts as well.
Between 16 to 30 years of age, inclusive - Actively involved and oriented in local Montreal music community - Experience working with volunteers - Event coordination - Experience as a volunteer at CKUT and/or previous experience at a campus-community radio station - Familiarity with social media platforms such as: wordpress blogs, facebook, twitter, instagram - Highly organized, reliable and capable of working in a busy environment - Ability to multi-task efficiently and work independently - Comfortable working with a diversity of people
