
These positions are funded by the Community Radio Fund of Canada’s Youth on Air! grant. All applicants must be between the ages of 16-30 (inclusive).
The interns will learn fundamental radio journalism skills, and gain experience in technical, creative, and journalistic aspects of creating radio documentaries, producing local newscasts, and producing news features at Kootenay Co-op Radio in Nelson, B.C.
INTERNS WILL RECEIVE TRAINING FROM EXPERIENCED LOCAL JOURNALISTS AND RADIO TECHNICIANS IN THESE AREAS:
-how to produce radio stories in three formats: newscast, news feature, documentary
-broadcast standards in Canada, defamation law, journalism ethics, plagiarism, and the importance of fact-checking stories
-finding and accessing news sources/stories
-telephone, field, and studio interviewing and journalism techniques
-studio and field recording equipment and techniques
-microphone techniques
-sound editing and sound design
-podcasting, promotion, and show syndication
THEY WILL PRODUCE:
-Radio newscasts three times a week for 8 weeks
-Public affairs features three times a week for 8 wks
-Four 30-minute radio documentaries
-One 29 minute episode of the national public affairs radio program, Groundwire, in conjunction with a Kootenay Co-op Radio volunteer
-Additional special radio programming as time permits
IN ADDITION TO THIS RADIO PROGRAMMING, THE INTERNS WILL RESEARCH AND COMPILE:
-a reference list of local news contacts that can be used by Kootenay Co-op Radio to create future newscasts
Compensation: this is a part-time paid internship (20 hours per week) for up to 12 weeks. $15.00/hr

$15 per hour
