ABOUT RADIO CKUT

CKUT 90.3 FM is a non-profit campus/community radio station based on the McGill Campus. We broadcast 24-7 on the FM dial and all our programming is available online for streaming and as a podcast for a 3-month period.

CKUT’s mission is to grant airtime to those who are not adequately served by the mainstream media and to provide facilities and training to members of the Montreal community and interested students. We believe that engaging in community media is an empowering experience for the individual and an instrument in facilitating change in our communities.

CKUT is collectively managed. Departments operate in an independent fashion while working cooperatively with volunteers to achieve these objectives.

Qualifications: 

The IT coordinator is responsible for overseeing the station’s IT network and services while providing technical support to staff and volunteers.

They will advise committees at CKUT, proposing effective technologies to facilitate radio production and streamline day-to-day operations.

They will consult with staff to establish tasks and priorities. They will work with staff & accounting department to budget yearly IT expenses and capital purchases.

The position requires previous experience in Systems Administration, particularly running Linux-based servers. The ideal candidate would also have experience with some other technologies deployed at CKUT- e.g. LAMP, RoR, Drupal, SQL, Asterisk/VOIP, Samba, NFS, Rsync, Liquidsoap, embedded/ARM systems. However the job offers flexibility and an opportunity to learn.

CKUT has a diverse technological topology. While many systems are implemented and maintained specifically by the IT coordinator, development projects are occasionally outsourced/contracted (e.g. web site development, funding drive database, digital library).

CKUT’S CURRENT IT SYSTEMS INCLUDE:
- Official web site at http://ckut.ca, built on Drupal and running on a dedicated Linux server.
- Live audio streaming with several months of archives.
- Email for staff & volunteers @ckut.ca, with discussion and distribution lists.
- Network storage for staff & volunteers which can be accessed at the station and remotely.
- Backup systems.
- VOIP telephones in offices and studios.
- Remote broadcast kits allowing live programming from remote locations.
- Online reservation system for scheduling of resources, e.g. studio bookings and lending of portable recording devices.
- Internal database of active volunteers.
- Internal Wiki for organizational documents, e.g. howtos, policies, minutes.
- CKUT’s Funding Drive Database, software written specifically for managing donors and pledges during the station’s annual Funding Drive.
- Office/network printers
- Around twenty workstations running a variety of OSes, primarily OS X, Windows 7

Salary: 

Wage: $15.10/hour
Hours: flexible, 20 – 35, depending on needs of candidate
