
CFUV 101.9 FM is the campus/community radio station located at the University of Victoria. We broadcast
from the traditional territories of the Songhees and WSÁNEĆ Peoples. We are a non-profit volunteer
organization with a small staff and over 200 volunteers. We broadcast innovative and underrepresented
content, and feature programming that includes music, spoken word, and multi-language/cultural content.
Job Description:
CFUV is launching a new one hour Indigenous radio program that will be broadcast live also be podcasted and
shared online. The program will feature stories and interviews with local Indigenous community members,
activists, artists, youth, entrepreneurs, and elders, and will include both traditional and contemporary
Indigenous music. The focus will be on local Indigenous communities and languages, but will also include
stories from Nations from across Turtle Island.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about curation and about amplifying Indigenous voices and
stories. The Producer of this program will have creative control over what is included; they can include
interviews, stories-telling, spoken word and poetry pieces, live musical performances, critical research pieces,
language revitalization projects, or any other content that is Indigenous-centered.
The successful candidate will be an Indigenous student who intends to return to full-time studies in September
and has a creative vision for the program. While broadcast and production experience is an asset, neither is
required or expected.
A passion for creating a platform for Indigenous voices to be heard on-air at CFUV.
An interest in broadcasting and/or podcasting.
A self-starter who is comfortable working independently, with supervision and assistance when
necessary.
Thrives in a deadline-oriented environment.
Confident seeking out and scheduling program guests and co-hosts.
Accountable and reliable, especially as it relates to assignment completion.
The successful candidate will receive all necessary training and will be mentored and supported by CFUV’s
Program Director to gain broadcast skills.
Principal Responsibilities:
The Producer will be responsible for hosting the program and arranging the program segments.
Produce and host eight one-hour episodes.
Arrange program guests and segments.
Prepare for and record interviews and pre-recorded Indigenous-centered segments.
Curate Indigenous-produced music to include in episodes.
Podcast each episode for archival purposes and to be available for download.
This is an excellent opportunity for a student to gain broadcast and podcast experience, as well as
meaningfully engage with important Indigenous perspectives and stories on the air.
