GroundWire Community Radio News is Canada's national campus and community news program. The 29-minute radio show features headlines, reports, features and short documentaries from independent and community radio journalists. Produced biweekly, GroundWire is a high-quality newscast, dedicated to grassroots coverage offering progressive perspectives on issues that engage a national audience. GroundWire's priority is to connect diverse communities from coast-to-coast-to-coast and encourage self-representation by focusing on content that shares in the ethics of human rights activism, equity, labour rights, democratic communication, information exchange and progressive political and social policy.
With this volunteer position, the National Campus and Community Radio Association (NCRA) and GroundWire offer an excellent opportunity to network at a national level with community media journalists across Canada. Community radio journalists have gone on to work in not-for-profit management, public policy, public relations and GroundWire alumni have been published in Canadian forums such as The Dominion Paper; Broken Pencil, Our Times, Briarpatch, and Democracy Now. GroundWire’s partners include rabble.ca, Accessible Media Inc, and the Canadian University Press.
Qualifications
-Background in community organizing and/or community media
-Audio editing skills an asset
-Excellent time management skills
-Experience working with volunteers
-Experience in online content management and social media
-Strong proofreading
-Proven news judgment
-Familiarity with collaborative work

Distribution
-Check audio quality and final mix from producer
-Post to ncra.ca/exchange, GW Blog, Radio4all, Rabble and Media Co-op sites.
-Send release announcement to listservs
-Update facebook and twitter accounts
Meetings and Minutes
-Coordinate monthly steering meetings
-Post minutes to the wikispace
Pitch Sorting Pile
-Put out calls for story pitches
-Check groundwireprod@gmail.com email for pitches
-Choose accepted pitches in consult with the producing station
Production Calendar
-Solicit new producers for the coming months
-Update and send the calendar every three months
