A) Working under the Station Manager to maintain CIVL as an organization that engages and attracts students and volunteers. This includes:
• Involving students and volunteers in decision making
• Creating a positive, volunteer-friendly atmosphere at the station, and recruiting those with an interest in campus/community radio
• Facilitating the integration of new volunteers into the workings of CIVL
• Training and knowledge sharing at CIVL, and identifying the needs of our programmers and volunteers
B) Managing CIVL’s airwaves and the quality of our programming. This includes:
• Coordinating the programming of CIVL Radio in accordance with our promotional, personnel, and technical resources as well as CRTC regulations
• Managing the performance and compliance of CIVL’s on-air programmers
• Working with the Programming Committee to create, update and implement a vision for CIVL’s on-air programming, as well as approve any programming additions, scheduling changes or policies as necessary
• Supporting CIVL’s on-air programmers and working with CIVL’s volunteers in delivering CIVL’s (1) general, (2) programming, and (3) technical training modules effectively
• Supporting the special needs of CIVL’s spoken word programmers, including assisting with content creation and production as required
• Working with CIVL’s volunteers and staff to ensure that CIVL’s studios are maintained, and that the technical needs of programmers are supported
• Coordinating special programming and live broadcasting initiatives on campus and in the community
• Promoting CIVL’s ongoing and special programming to our listeners and volunteers
• Representing CIVL’s programming department on issues of policy, regulation, copyright, and all other issues that affect programming at CIVL
• Strategic planning and evaluation within the programming department, and working under direction of the station manager to plan and evaluate the station as a whole, as well as conducting periodical volunteer performance reviews
• Strategizing under station manager direction what CIVL must do to stay relevant to society given the changing nature of Broadcasting
- Ensuring that questions of balance, integrity, and objectivity are addressed and deconstructed both through looking at CIVL's content as well as that which is present in other prevalent media sources
The successful candidate will possess elements of the following qualifications, but applications from candidates of all experience levels and backgrounds will be considered:
- A Bachelors Degree (or equivalent experience working with NFP or Media organizations)
- A College Diploma (or equivalent experience working in radio, media or journalism)
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience combined working within the music and/or broadcast media industry
- Minimum 1-2 years of experience supervising and/or mentoring others
- Experience with committee and volunteer decision making and goal achievement
- Demonstrated experience planning and executing long term projects
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a diverse group of varying ages, experience, and backgrounds
- Excellent multi-tasking skills
- Excellent oral and written communications skills
- Proven ability to meet tight deadlines
- Ability to stand up to pressure in challenging circumstances
- A strong sense of integrity
