CKUT is committed to the further development, implementation, and realization of our mandate, which centres social justice values and underrepresented voices. As such, CKUT is hiring an Indigenous Programming and Outreach Coordinator to help increase Indigenous content and participation within the station, its programming, and its governance.
The Indigenous Programming and Outreach Coordinator, in collaboration with our current News Coordinator, will be tasked with growing news content specific to Indigenous issues. With the help of other department coordinators, they will also increase Indigenous-focused content within our Arts & Culture and Music departments. Through direct outreach and support, the Indigenous Programming and Outreach Coordinator will help facilitate the self-representation of local Indigenous communities and youth. In doing so, they will also encourage programming that is reflective of the plurality of Indigenous identities and experiences that exist.
In addition to their core tasks, the Indigenous Programming and Outreach Coordinator will be encouraged to take an active role in the station’s governance. As a member of the Programming Committee, they will work collectively to ensure that Indigenous perspectives are being represented and that the station continues to realize its mandate and policies. In addition to the Programming Committee, the Coordinator will also be involved in consultations with other governing bodies within CKUT.

Duties:
Outreach to Indigenous community and cultural centres, schools, and university groups to recruit volunteers. Jointly-coordinate and manage Indigenous programmers with respective department coordinators. Organize radio workshops at Indigenous high schools. With the help of volunteers, and in consultation with Indigenous and social justice organizations, develop Indigenous specific competency training and update existing station documents and policies. Participate in hiring a library science (MISt) intern to assist in the “decolonization” of the station’s music library. Foster a link between pre-existing Indigenous radio stations in Montreal area and CKUT. Implement an infrastructure to ensure the continuation of high-quality Indigenous programming at the station after the contract ends.
Required:
Experience with workshop planning and facilitation. Experience with volunteer outreach and coordination. Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects and timelines. Familiarity with alternative media, as well as local grassroots/social justice groups, organizers, and members of the CKUT and McGill community. Familiarity with non-hierarchical organizations and/or willingness to participate in collective decision-making.
Assets:
Experience with audio editing software and recording equipment. Multilingualism, especially fluency in (an) Indigenous language(s), an asset. Familiarity with archival and cataloguing systems, especially Indigenous Knowledge Organization systems, an asset but not required. Knowledge of how to implement Indigenous cultural safety and competency training for a diverse group of people. Adaptive and able to work in a high-stress environment.
