Gearing up to celebrate 90 years of broadcasting in 2017, the mission of CKUA Radio Network (“CKUA”) is to be “Alberta’s cultural network that celebrates music, engages communities and makes life worth listening to.”
Growing from humble beginnings at the University of Alberta in 1927, CKUA has always been a pioneer. It was Canada’s first public broadcaster and Alberta’s first FM radio station, and in 1996 became the first radio station in Canada to stream online. Today CKUA is an icon in the Alberta radio landscape. It connects with communities throughout Alberta and beyond, broadcasting expertly curated programs featuring a wide spectrum of musical genres and other topics. CKUA remains true to its roots of featuring Albertan musicians, writers and performers while also showcasing independent artists of all genres from around the world. It remains as loyal to its listeners as they are to CKUA; indeed over 60% of CKUA’s revenue comes directly from its supporters in Alberta and around the globe.
CKUA’s operations are grounded in its culture of ownership and passion and its core values of Knowledge, Respect, Creativity, Integrity, Fiscal Responsibility, Relevance and Collaboration. With both challenges and opportunities to tackle in the near future, CKUA is looking forward to taking its listener base into a new and exciting chapter.
The CEO reports directly to the Board of Directors and is CKUA’s operational and strategic leader. The successful candidate is an energetic and seasoned strategic leader who appreciates CKUA’s unique role within Canadian media and who has a passion for community building.
