CFRU 93.3fm (Guelph, Ontario) is seeking an Academic Radio Assistant for an 8 month position.

The Academic Radio Assistant will offer support, assistance and radio skill-building opportunities to students and faculty participating in CFRU’s AcademicRadio programming initiative.
Working both with seminar courses and with individual students and their faculty advisors, the Academic Radio Assistant will provide training and guidance, and assist with scripting, interviewing, editing, production, and promotion towards the development of research-based radio documentaries.
The Academic Radio Assistant will work closely with the CFRU Station Manager and the Programming Coordinator.

Duties
•Offer support to participants through one-on-one workshops and through occasional classroom workshops (on research, interviewing, script writing, presentation, in-studio and on-site recording, editing and production, short-form documentary production, etc)
•Provide hands on assistance as necessary
•In conjunction with Operations Coordinator, coordinate studio time and equipment bookings for participants
•Encourage and facilitate the development of programming collectives related to academics at the University of Guelph
•Provide feedback and support to program participants
•Share spoken word programming manuals, tools, guides, and tip-sheets with the participants
•Assist participants in the process of framing research findings in a way that is both scholarly rigorous and widely accessible to the public
•Arrange on-air scheduling with Programming Coordinator
•Maintain regular communication with all participants. Develop organisational systems for this project.
•Develop connections with University organisations and groups which can contribute content
•Communicate effectively and regularly with involved volunteers

Qualifications: 

• candidate must have a university diploma or be a current university student, or demonstrate equivalent familiarity with the requirements of universityacademic life
• experience in all elements of spoken word radio: script-writing, editing, technical production, interviewing, etc.
• experience coordinating and training volunteers
• excellent listening skills
• demonstrated research analysis and presentation skills
• demonstrated interviewing and journalistic technique
• demonstrated commitment to public service and advocacy
• demonstrated skill in radio and sound production
• ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• self-motivated and willing to initiate projects
• high level of computer proficiency
• experience volunteering at CFRU and in campus community radio generally an asset
• ability to interpret and articulate CFRU's policies

Wage is $18.72 per hour plus all the provisions under the Collective Agreement.. This is a CUPE 1281 Bargaining Unit position.
