
The Canadian Association of Labour Media (CALM) is seeking a part-time coordinator. The coordinator will report to CALM’s editor and assist in executing the week to week operation of CALM
The coordinator will be responsible for administrative tasks, assisting with membership support and outreach, coordinating the business of the executive committee and Annual General Meeting, and helping organize the CALM Awards and the CALM annual conference.
This is a one-year contract, with the possibility of renewal at the end of the contract.
We are looking for someone who is dedicated and hard-working, organized, who has an understanding of the challenges facing the labour movement and who has a passion for strategic communications or media. The successful candidate will be motivated and have a demonstrated ability to work independently, remotely, and as part of a team.
Tasks
· Offer administrative support to ensure the efficient functioning of CALM
· Engage in membership communication and outreach and provide services to membership
· Help organize the yearly CALM conference and CALM Awards
· Coordinate documents for meetings of the CALM executive and the Annual General Meeting, including archiving documents
· Assist in the maintenance of the CALM website and social media accounts
· Coordinate workshops and participate in major conventions of the labour movement
· Generate CALM content, either written or designed materials
· Implement direction of CALM executive in coordination with CALM editor
Requirements:
· Experience in administrative tasks
· Editing and writing experience in English
· Experience with event and conference planning
· Familiarity with office admin software (word processing, spreadsheets) and web publishing tools (Drupal and civiCRM)
· Ability to work both autonomously and with a team
· Strong interest in and understanding of the labour movement
· Ability to work from home or personal office space
Assets
· Experience in a labour organization and history of working within labour movement
· Experience working within mainstream or independent media
· Experience with database management
· Experience with design & desktop publishing software
· Ability to speak and write in French
This is an 20h/week one-year contract. Compensation is $1150 bi-weekly. Hours are expected to be worked during CALM regular business hours.
