Hello NCRA/ANREC Members
We are excited to announce the launch of the Spring 2021 Mentorship Program!
The Mentorship Program is a key part of the NCRA/ANREC’s learning and development strategy. Our goal is to offer our members an opportunity for peer to peer mentorship and learning that is ENTIRELY FREE.
First launched in 2019, the mentorship program was formed to team up new staff members in the cc radio sector with experienced staff mentors who share the same or similar role at other stations. For example, if you’re a new Station Manager, we would pair you up with an experienced Station Manager as a mentor to support you over a 3-month period.
This year, we are expanding our offer to include the option for interested mentors and mentees of racialized/equity-seeking communities to indicate Preferred Matching in our mentee and mentor sign up form. It’s important that we foster and support the leadership and experience of Black, Indigienous and People of Colour (BIPOC) within our membership and we will do our best to match those who indicate a preference in our sign up forms.
Calling All Mentors
In order for us to be able to offer our mentorship program to as many new staff members as possible, we need the help of the experienced staff within our membership. If you’ve been at your station for 2 or more years and have 2.5 hours a month (for 3-months), we encourage you to consider the rewarding experience of Signing Up As A Mentor.
Mentors can expect to contribute 2.5 hours a month to support their mentee. Whether that be a set time each month, or at a pace that suits your schedule, the NCRA is here to support you in making this opportunity work for everyone.
The deadline to sign up is FRIDAY APRIL 23rd.

An Opportunity For Mentorship
As a mentee, you will be paired with mentors who have experience in the same or similar role, so you can ask advice and discuss difficult topics with someone with applicable experience. Past mentees have described the mentorship program as an invaluable experience. Once again, this program is free to our members.
We are excited to be able to offer this opportunity and hope that people will sign up here:
The deadline to sign up is FRIDAY APRIL 16th.
The Governance / Board of Directors Mentorship
Following consultations with our members we realized that many stations are looking for support for people looking to join their boards of directors. We have created a new Mentorship stream specifically for potential board members. In this stream we offer the following:
Board of Directors E-Learning
Participation and experience on NCRA/ANREC Board Committees (shadowing)
Participation and experience with their station’s Board Committees (shadowing)
We want to offer potential board members the ability to learn about the expectations, and task of being a Board member before they take on all of the responsibilities of an elected role.
If you have a potential board member mentee in mind, we require that your Board also allocate some time for them to shadow a committee or Board member.
They can sign up here by indicating the Governance Mentorship option.
A Note on Equity
During the consultations we conducted last summer, it was brought to our attention that Black, Indigenous and People of Colour do not have equitable access to mentors with a shared lived experience. It’s important that we foster and support the leadership and experience of Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) within our membership.
Following consultation with our Equity Committee, and in keeping with the recommendations of the ‘They Don’t Come To Us’ Report, we will be offering the opportunity for Mentors and Mentees. This is a part of our ‘Black, Indigenous and People of Colour Preferred’ matching effort. Mentees can indicate that they would prefer to be matched with BIPOC mentors. We will do our best to match those who indicate this preference.
