Montreal, February 13, 2016. The Montreal university radio station CHOQ.ca is pleased to announce the launch of the second edition of the 60 Second Radio 2016 World Contest. Last year, more than 120 short radio works were submitted by producers from more than fifteen countries in the Americas, Asia, Africa and Europe.
The theme chosen by CHOQ.ca’s team for the 2016 edition of 60 Second Radio is A Quiet morning. And for good reason. "In these times of turmoil, suspicions and uncertainty, we opted for a quiet morning, hoping to offer everyone the opportunity to dream or to live at least one of them. And as you wish it should be. For some, A Quiet Morning is an absolute necessity, or one to be avoided at all costs. The dawn a new day can lead to so many possibilities... We can provide to the faithful and newcomers of the 60 Second Radio 2016 World Contest a mental break, a window into this quiet morning. It is now up to you to decide what shape you’ll be giving to your sound work, and if it will be filled with sound disorders or not! "said Boris Chassagne, contest director. In any case, "the dream that just came out of the night leaves its mark on the day that begins with a quiet morning. I trust that they remain within reach".
According to Paul Charpentier, programme director CHOQ.ca, "We were overwhelmed with the quality of the entries received for last year’s theme ‘Liberty’. This time around, we are convinced that ‘A Calm Morning’ will be an ideal playground in which your creativity and imagination can run unfettered. This theme, universal yet deeply personal, will undoubtedly strike a singular chord with creators the world over".
This year’s contest remains open to all styles of sound creation. Let yourself go! Fiction, portrait, sound art, poetry, satire, vox, interviews, prose, collage, radio art, environmental works, creative, exploded, burlesque, comedy, everything is permitted, provided it is 60 Seconds in length!!! ... Let your brain go, play with your faders, switches, and keep in mind that creativity and originality are well received by the jury!
And hey, there’s money to be won! The 60 Second Radio 2016 Jury will award four prizes: Grand Prize: $ 1,000 / 2nd Prize: $ 750 / 3rd Prize: $ 500/ 4th Prize: $ 250, all in Canadian funds. No participation limit ... Wish to produce 2, 5 ... 7 capsules: just do it! The participation deadline is Sunday, April 10, 2016, midnight, GMT. Let us thank our sponsors-partners wich have remained faithful to us in 2016 and we are extremely grateful to have them on board. They are: the International Relations Service of l’Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) and the School of Media of l’UQÀM. We also welcome a new friendship in 2016: the National Association of Campus and Community Radio Canada (NCRA/ANREC), which brings together close to 100 Canadian campus and community radio stations. Our new affiliation with the NCRA allows us to expand our radio reach across Canada.
Furthermore, many Canadian and international radio stations and broadcast groups will relay some of the capsules presented to the 60 Second Radio project in 2016.
